9A Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Who: Are there certain people or certain businesses that, although they share a lot in common with the others in your opportunity, nevertheless fall outside the boundary? Why?
The people that I interviewed who did not fall inside the boundary were mainly people who did not live near large masses of homeless people in Gainesville.  Mainly, these were UF students who live on campus, or students who aren't in the business school and don't often travel to the corner of University and 13th street.  Freshmen that I interviewed that lived near the stadium, like East Hall, or students in the honors college at Hume hall, were to geographically distant from the homeless population to really even notice their existence.  Although these students are similar to the other people I had interviewed who fell within the boundary, they nevertheless fell outside the boundary because of a slight geographic difference.
What: At what point does the need you identified differ from another need? (Is thirst the same as hunger? Or is the desire to appear fashionable the same as the desire to be loved by others?)
The point at which the need to aid the homeless population differs from not wanting to take action is a different threshold depending on the person.  For some people, the difference could be between morally wanting to help homeless people, or being apathetic; for others, the difference could mean living or working within close proximity to homeless people, or being too far away to recognize the need.
Why: Is the underlying cause of the outsiders' need different than people who are inside the boundary?
There is no need to help the homeless population of Alachua county for people who fall outside the boundary.  However, people can fluctuate from being in and out of the boundary.

Who is In:
People who are directly affected by the homeless population of Alachua county, people who live and work near them and witness them on a daily basis, and homeless people who need help getting back on their feet.
Who is Not:
People who are not around the homeless people as much, or aren’t homeless themselves.
What the Need is:
Alachua county would be better off as a whole if there was a more productive workforce and more homeless people were off the streets.  People’s lives would be better and not as many people would have to scrape by.
What the Need is Not:
They do not need the homeless population of Gainesville to be aided because it does not affect them in any way.
Why the Need Exists:
The homeless population of Alachua county continues to grow, and Gainesville residents are unsettled by their panhandling.
Alternative Explanations:
People that are not exposed to it do not feel an urgency to help.
