Plan for growing in the existing market

My plan for growing in my existing market (Alachua County) is to first start the business right here in Gainesville.  During this stage, I will create brand awareness and expand only into the local area/market.  Once the business has success in Gainesville and we have some recurrent donors, we will expand into new markets.

Plan for growing into a new market

Before we tackle new markets outside of Alachua county, I must make sure that the business is stable enough in the original area that it was created.  Then, we can move to cities outside of Gainesville that are dealing with a large homeless population.  If the business is sustainable in those new locations, then we can continue expanding across Florida.  We can aid in this expansion by effective marketing strategies.

How my concept can create value in the market

The concept of Homeward Bound Florida is simple:  Help homeless people get back on their feet through a variety of programs--including basic necessities like food, shelter, and clothing, and other services like cooking classes, interview prep, or financial literacy courses.  This will provide homeless people with the resources they need to get jobs and be back on their feet.

Is the second market as attractive as the first?

The second market (expanding across Florida), is just as attractive as the first, because people are in need everywhere, not exclusively in Alachua County.

  1. Hi Julianna!
Overall, I liked your blog post, however, it feels like you were short on time with this assignment. Just seeing this post gives me very little information about your original/existing idea and what you hope to accomplish/problem you seek to fix. When I was reading about a new segment, I was hoping for an added feature to your program. You have an idea that I love and I would love to hear what your next steps are after you successfully gain funding and set up your employment partners in the Gainesville community. This would be helpful to expound upon this more.
Thank you for putting time into your assignments!

  2. Hi Julianna, I think it is wise for you to make sure you are established in the home base location before deciding to venture into new markets. I recommend fleshing out what would be different in the new market that you plan on going into compared to the Gainesville/Alachua market. If you were to try and start this program in South Florida, what would you need to alter in your design of the idea in order to meet the needs of this homeless population? Instead of offering food would you prioritize shelter? Would you organize more partnership with local businesses considering there will be more that are closer together in South Florida? What about if you left Florida entirely, what would change? I think you have a solid idea, if you can add these details it is bound to improve.
