26A Celebrating Faliure
1) Tell us about a time this past semester that you failed -- whether in this class, or outside of this class. Don't spare any details! It'd be even better if there was something you tried several times this semester, and failed each time.
A notable time that I failed was actually in this class. It was the first week of assignments, and I had been putting off starting my work after syllabus week. Finally, on the first Friday of classes, I went to the library and took a look at the assignments for my classes. To my dismay, I had missed the first four ENT assignments because I didn't realize that they were due at noon on Fridays, instead of at midnight. I completely flipped out because I wasn't sure how many points they were worth or how they would impact my grade.
2) Tell us what you learned from it.
Thankfully, assignments are only worth a few points and I was able to make up for my losses relatively quickly. However, I learned from that experience the importance of working ahead, and always taking responsibility for my actions.
3) Reflect, in general, on what you think about failure. Failure is hard, isn't it? It's embarrassing, sure, but it also means that we have to change something about ourselves. Talk about how you handle failure (emotionally, behaviorally). Finally, talk about how this class has changed your perspective on failure -- are you more likely to take a risk now than you were just a few months ago?
What is so impactful about faliure is that it leaves us with a burning memory that we will never want to repeat. Thus, we learn from it. Now that I have learned from my mistake of not taking syllabus week seriously, I will never make that error again.
Hi Julianna!
ReplyDeleteThis is a terrible thing to have happen to you; I can relate because I have almost done this before several times. I am glad that you learned from your mistake and didn’t end up making it again. I agree that failure can be embarrassing but many things can be learned through it as you mentioned. Thank you for putting time into your assignments!
Good Job!
Hi Julianna! Great post! I know I was feeling the same at first when it came to the class knowing deadline were due at 12 at noon. I was taking this course with a very intense course, business finance, and I was scared the deadline would catch up to me and I wouldn’t be able to complete it all. Great Job!
ReplyDeleteHi Julianna,
ReplyDeleteI totally understand the frustration of missing an assignment, there were a few I missed for this class as well because I thought they were due at midnight and not noon. I think it is important that you highlighted the fat that you could recover from the instance quickly and how this lesson helped you with the future assignments. Great post!
